New CEO heads PSA

The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia has appointed healthcare advocate and health policy expert Mark Kinsela as CEO from December 2.

During his career Mr Kinsela has been an adviser to the federal health minister and the minister for social services and aged care. He has worked as a clinical nurse educator and trauma intensive care specialist. Most recently he was chief of staff at the Australian Digital Health Agency.

Dr Shane Jackson will step down from the position of interim CEO and will continue to lead PSA’s negotiations for the 7CPA.

“We’re delighted to have someone of Mark’s experience leading PSA into its next stage,” PSA President Chris Freeman said.

“Mark’s career has taken in all aspects of healthcare, from delivery through to policy. It has given him an exceptional level of expertise and insight into the challenges facing Australia’s healthcare systems and potential solutions, such as innovation and multidisciplinary care.

“We believe Mark’s training as a healthcare provider and executive MBA, combined with his impressive professional background, will help PSA continue to ensure our profession has the opportunity to positively contribute to policy making at the highest levels and achieve the goals outlined in our ‘Pharmacists in 2023’ vision.”

Guild Executive Director Suzanne Greenwood says Mr Kinsela will bring invaluable experience to the role.

“The sector faces increasing challenges, but I’m confident that working together for the good of the profession and our patients we can achieve strong and positive outcomes,” she said.
