An introduction to medicinal cannabis

Media Release

1 June 2020

The number of Australians being prescribed medicinal cannabis is increasing rapidly.

Over the 12-month period to 31 January 2020, it’s reported that the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved 27,658 Category B applications for unapproved medicinal products.

In light of this emerging field of medicine, Guild Learning and Development has partnered with BioCeuticals in the development of a new comprehensive online module titled, An introduction to medicinal cannabis.

This practice-focused module is a great way to equip pharmacists with the essential knowledge and skills for delivering patient care in this important new therapy area.

This module includes an introduction to the therapeutic uses and regulatory aspects of cannabis, including the mechanisms of action, pharmacokinetic profile, safety and practical considerations for pharmacists in supplying medicinal cannabis and counselling patients.

The activity has been accredited for 1.5 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 1.5 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan, which can be converted to 1.5 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 3 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.
