Guild congratulates Dr Sim on PSA re-election

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia congratulates Dr Fei Sim on her re-election for a second term as National President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA).

This re-election, according to Pharmacy Guild National President Professor Trent Twomey, is a strong demonstration of the stability within the profession.

“At the moment the pharmacy profession is facing existential threats and having stability and unity in the leadership of peak pharmacy groups, including the PSA, is especially important,” says Professor Twomey.

“A particular challenge at present is the threat posed by the introduction of 60-day dispensing and the strong PSA leadership is working with the Guild to minimise the dangers this misdirected policy poses for patients and for pharmacists.

“It’s fair to say our common concerns about 60-day dispensing have seen the Guild and PSA work more closely than we have for some time.”

Professor Twomey says this unified approach also bodes well for future shared priorities between the organisations.

“Both organisations recognise the importance of fighting to enable pharmacists to work to their full scope of practice,” says Professor Twomey.

“Achieving this objective will be a focus moving forward because it presents so many beneficial outcomes for patients, the health system and the viability of pharmacies across the whole country.

“I look forward to continuing our close relationship with Dr Sim and her leadership team, and working together for the future of our profession.”
