Minister Hunt for opening plenary at APP2018

Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt will deliver the opening keynote address at APP2018.

Pharmacy Guild National President George Tambassis says Mr Hunt will present in the opening plenary session on Thursday, May 3.

“It’s great news that the Federal Minister for Health, Greg Hunt, will again attend APP as our keynote speaker on day one,” Mr Tambassis said. “His participation in the presentation of the Guild Pharmacy of the Year 2018 awards is also a real feather in the cap of the conference and of the Guild. It adds a lot to what is always a great occasion to have the minister on hand.

“Minister Hunt has only been in the health portfolio for a comparatively short time – a little over a year – but in that time he has shown an acute awareness of the importance of community pharmacy in our health system. His presence at APP will be a further indication of his commitment to our sector – owners, staff and patients.”

APP Chair Kos Sclavos says the opening plenary will now run from 8.30am to 10.30am with a refreshed format, providing a dynamic introduction to the conference.

“In addition to the Health Minister presenting the opening keynote address, the opening plenary will highlight achievements and challenges for community pharmacy,” he said, adding that Mr Tambassis would provide an update on the state of community pharmacy and “set the vision for the Guild for the next 12 months”.

“In addition, awards of excellence will be showcased, including the presentation of the prestigious Guild Pharmacy of the Year Award,” Mr Sclavos continued.

“As the opening session will begin at 8.30am, I would like to take this opportunity to remind delegates to review their travel plans to ensure they don’t miss this important session.”
