EOI on training

Experienced pharmacists are being urged to submit an expression of interest for a newly formed professional reference group to advise on accreditation standards for pharmacy degrees and intern-training programs.

The Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) is reviewing the current accreditation standards and its professional reference group is designed to:

  • advise on the scope, content and progress of the review;
  • assist the APC to understand and respond to external policies that affect the APC’s accreditation functions;
  • analyse feedback from stakeholders; and
  • ultimately develop the final standards.

APC CEO Bronwyn Clark says it’s important a broad range of professionals, from frontline practitioners right through to those in the tertiary education sector, contribute to the development of accreditation standards.

“The types of practitioners we’re seeking will bring to the reference group current thinking, knowledge of best-practice and perspectives on work-ready pharmacists and students,” she said.

“They will also have a fascination with innovative curriculum and instructional design, and a desire to assure and advance quality in pharmacy education,” she said.

The professional reference group is seeking the following experts: a pharmacy academic from a metropolitan university; a pharmacy academic from a rural/regional university; a pharmacy educator involved in experiential placements/intern-training programs; a health practitioner (non-pharmacist) with health-education-accreditation experience; a pharmacist with a demonstrated interest in education from hospital/secondary care; and a pharmacist with a demonstrated interest in education from community pharmacy/primary care.
