The Pharmacists’ Support Service (PSS) is using #GivingTuesday, November 27, to launch their Christmas appeal for donations to support their work.
John Coppock announced the launch of the appeal and said “PSS is a charity supporting pharmacists, interns and pharmacy students all around Australia through our telephone support line. The number of calls to the service continues to increase and we ask all members of the profession to support this work with the gift of a donation during the giving season. You never know when you or a colleague might need PSS.”
PSS is asking for a donation to PSS via the online portal which is linked to their website www.givenow.com.au/pharmacistssupportservice All donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be issued.
Mr Coppock said “work pressures for pharmacists at this time of the year in the lead up to the holiday season can be substantial. It is a busy time of the year for everyone and this pressure cooker environment creates a level of stress for us and those we serve in our role as pharmacists. We must look after ourselves in order to be able to care for our patients.”
If the usual support systems are not available and pharmacists need to talk, the PSS is available to provide a listening ear throughout the holiday season from 8am to 11pm EST every day of the year. Call 1300 244 910 for anonymous and confidential support from a pharmacist colleague over the phone.
Mr Coppock said “PSS is a profession specific charity and we need your support. The volunteers; who are trained for their role to take calls from distressed pharmacists, interns and students are themselves all experienced pharmacists or retired pharmacists who understand the nature of the profession and the pressures pharmacists experience. We are aware that there are times in every pharmacists’ life when they need to talk to a colleague about a distressing matter.”
