Health Minister tours community pharmacies

Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt discussed key issues facing community pharmacists during his tour of community pharmacies in Queensland this week.

Topics included the $1 Discount, community pharmacy access to the NIP and the next pharmacy agreement. Pharmacy Guild of Australia Queensland Branch Vice President Kos Sclavos said it was pleasing to meet with the Health Minister allowing community pharmacists to discuss a number of positive opportunities for community pharmacy in 2019 and beyond.

“The round table discussion provided the opportunity to raise a number of concerns facing community pharmacy owners” he said.

“The Minister was receptive to the opportunity to embed specific pharmacy programs so they are not up for renewal every five years. The Guild looks forward to providing more information to the minister to progress these items.”

Mr Hunt and local Member for Dickson, Peter Dutton held a round table discussion with a number of pharmacy owners at TerryWhite Chemmart Samford. Mr Hunt also toured the Holland Park Chempro Chemist medical centre and a pharmacy on the Gold Coast.

“On behalf of the Queensland Guild and our members, I would like to thank both the Minister for Health and the Minister Dutton for their time,” Mr Sclavos said.
