Diabetes Victoria getting back to basics on video

Diabetes Victoria is launching a ‘Back to Basics’ campaign during National Diabetes Week (July 14-20), educating people about diabetes, one of the most misunderstood and fastest growing health conditions, in a series of short videos.

“Our Back to Basics campaign gives us the opportunity to raise awareness about all types of diabetes,” the group’s CEO, Craig Bennett, said.

The program is aimed at changing misconceptions around diabetes.

“We need to ensure people are supported, instead of being stigmatised, because we too often hear things about diabetes that are simply not true,” Mr Bennett said.

The campaign’s first video is expected to explain the prevalence of diabetes in Victoria and mention the different types of diabetes.

“Once you develop diabetes, you’ll have to manage the condition every day for the rest of your life,” Mr Bennett said. “There’s a great need to raise awareness about this, in particular.”

Further videos will be launched over the next 12 months and are said to include case studies detailing what is involved in living with the different types of diabetes.
