Guild President awarded title of JCU Professor

The National President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Trent Twomey, has been awarded the full academic title of James Cook University (JCU) Professor in the Division of Tropical Health and Medicine.

Bestowing the honour, the University says: “Award of full academic title is a recognition of the vital contributions that you and many other colleagues have made, and continue to make to the success of JCU.

“Your tremendous dedication to your profession and to the work of the University, supporting the creation of new knowledge and helping to prepare the next generations of health professionals, is acknowledged and is very much appreciated.”

The Executive Director of the Guild, Suzanne Greenwood, says bestowing of the full academic title was a great and fitting recognition of Professor Twomey’s work with the university and with the pharmacy profession.

“He has been tireless in helping develop JCU’s School of Pharmacy to provide opportunities for students in Far North Queensland to train as health professionals,” says Ms Greenwood.

“The need for professionals such as pharmacists in regional, rural and remote areas is pivotal to meeting the health needs of communities in these locations.

“Professor Twomey saw that having local people train at a local university was a significant step in meeting the local demand for pharmacists.”

Ms Greenwood congratulates Professor Twomey on his achievement.

“The Guild and our members are immensely proud of this recognition of our National President,” she says.

“While it recognises his work at James Cook University, it also reflects his overall dedication and commitment to community pharmacy and the patients the sector serves.”
