For more than 100 years, BD has been a trusted name in insulin delivery, starting with the creation of the world’s first insulin syringe in 1924. Today, embecta (formerly BD Diabetes Care) is continuing that legacy of innovation, education and advocacy.1
As part of the brand transition from BD Diabetes Care to embecta, BD pen needles and insulin syringes are now part of embecta – a global diabetes care company. With this change, we are excited to introduce new embecta packaging. These are the same products with the same manufacturing and quality standards that you and your clients know and trust, now brought to you by embecta.
NDSS Portal Ordering Update
Effective 1 April 2026, the “BD” prefix has been removed from all product descriptions within the NDSS portal. Pharmacists should search “Ultra-Fine” or “Micro-Fine” (including the hyphen), which are now part of embecta. NDSS codes remain the same. For more information, please refer to the official product announcement from the NDSS.
Pharmacists are advised to continue dispensing existing BD branded pen needles and insulin syringes until stock is depleted, before transitioning to embecta branded products as they become available through pharmacy supply channels. Please reassure clients it is the same product, with a new look.

- access communication materials for pharmacy teams, including embecta branded images and product information to understand the packaging transition as a pharmacist
- access English and multilingual flyers for your clients to learn more about what is new or changing as part of the packaging transition
- track the rollout of embecta branded pen needles and syringes with the live product launch tracker
As transition timing will vary across the portfolio, both BD branded and embecta branded products may be available in market concurrently for a period of time.
