Pharmacist of the Year announced at TerryWhite Chemmart Masterclass 2023

Peter Fairgray of TerryWhite Chemmart Arana Hills (QLD) was named Pharmacist of the Year 2023 at the gala event held as part of Masterclass 2023 in Adelaide.

Over 550 TerryWhite Chemmart pharmacists and pharmacy professionals from across Australia celebrated Mr Fairgray’s accomplishment along with Jen Chao from TWC Findon (SA) announced as Intern of the Year 2023 and Paul Drury from TWC Elizabeth South (SA) receiving the Innovative Community Care 2023 Award.

Peter Fairgray was nominated by colleagues across the network for his work in men’s health, bringing clinical services, knowledge and awareness about erectile issues and improving health outcomes after surgery for prostate cancer.

One of the nominations Peter received highlighted the care he so passionately provides, ‘He makes a very delicate issue into one that men and their partners can discuss and seek help without embarrassment or shame.’

‘His reputation and dedication have reached further then his immediate community; he has had a patient fly in from Mackay for an appointment.

He has also presented to three Men’s Sheds and a Prostate Support Group in Moreton Bay with 60 men in attendance who have had complications or are recovering from prostate cancer.’

“Peter typifies the work so many of our pharmacists do by delivering on their full scope of practice. I am so proud to see Peter follow his passion and deliver a much-needed service and a safe space for care and connection for his community members. He is an ally for so many, which in health care is no longer a nice to have but a necessity.” says TerryWhite Chemmart Executive General Manager, Nick Munroe.

Other highlights of the gala evening were the announcement of Paul Drury (TWC Elizabeth South, SA) as the winner of the Innovative Community Care 2023 Award. Paul has led his pharmacy team to embed their care in their local community, shifting the pharmacy’s focus to better meet the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients. The pharmacy has engaged with local community organisations and utilised an interpreter to work with patients and better meet the health needs of their community.

‘Changing how we present pharmacy to our communities and truly working with them for better outcomes is exceptional care. What Paul and his team have showcased is the ability to celebrate diversity and integrate inclusion and innovation into their daily practice and delivery of care. It’s pharmacy teams like this that should be commended for making a huge difference.’, says Chief Pharmacist Brenton Hart.

The future of pharmacy relies on nurturing the next generation of pharmacists delivering care and this is the celebration of the Intern of the Year at TerryWhite Chemmart. Jen Chao of TWC Findon (SA) was announced as the award winner as she continues to accelerate her learning in Therapeutic Skin Care and Integrative therapies. She is seen as a leader within her team and encourages others by sharing the knowledge she obtains to elevate the care her colleagues can provide.

“The success of our Intern Development Program is essential for identifying and supporting future leaders of pharmacy. Professionals entering our industry, as seen by Jen’s enthusiasm to elevate her team and take additional time with her patients, is the definition of Dedication to Care.”, says Nick Munroe.

More than 550 pharmacists and health professionals attended Masterclass 2023 in Adelaide 19-21 June with over 25 industry leading speakers delivering a 3-day CPD education program. The pinnacle educational event for TerryWhite Chemmart will return to the Gold Coast in 2024.
