The Salvos 2020 Red Shield Appeal goes digital

Taking place this weekend, 23-24 May 2020, The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Appeal aims to raise $8 million dollars to help those most in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The COVID-19 crisis has financially crippled many Australians and it will take months to see the real impact it will have,” says The Salvation Army’s, Major Bruce Hammer.

“By donation to our Appeal, you will ensure The Salvation Army will have the resources to help Aussies in need, not just now but in the trying months to come.”

As with most events, this year the Red Shield Appeal is going digital with high-profile Australian’s lending their support to the cause.

Aussie champions, performers, media stars and kitchen legends will play their part in the Red Shield Appeal.

The list of big-hearted supporters includes surfing legend Layne Beachley, TV stars Hamish Blake, Sonia Kruger and Ray Meagher, cricketers Justin Langer and Pat Cummins, dual AFL Premiership and Brownlow Medal winner Adam Goodes, celebrity chefs Maggie Beer and Gary Mehigan, singers Samantha Jade and Dami Im, comedians Adam Hills and Glenn Robbins and many trusted voices from across TV, news and radio.

“This year, more than ever, The Salvos are on the front-line helping families that are doing it tough,” says Hamish Blake.

The debut of unprecedented celebrity support coincides with the launch of the Salvos first Digital Doorknock, a response to COVID-19 after 55 years of knocking on doors each May.

“We thank everyone who will donate [to the Appeal] and the 75 famous Aussies who have back our Appeal. Together, let’s leave no one in need,” Says Major Harmer.
