Australia post partners with Guild to deliver contactless medicine

Australia Post has announced the launch of its Pharmacy Home Delivery Service following government’s announcement it will allocate $25 million to fund home medicine services in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

It has teamed up the Pharmacy Guild of Australia to deliver this service in a contactless way to help vulnerable members of the community who may be in isolation and unable to access essential medication, especially those over 70 who suffer from chronic health conditions.

Since yesterday pharmacies nationwide have been enabled to provide customers with free monthly delivery of medication to their homes, a post office or a parcel locker – the cost of which is claimable through a government rebate – via the Australia Post Express Post network.

Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt welcomed Australia Post delivering much-needed medications to Australians and helping to protect vulnerable members of the community.

Communications Minister Paul Fletcher pointed out the important role Australia Post plays in the community and its extensive network that will enable Australians to safely access their PBS medications over the coming months.

Australia Post Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Australia Post Christine Holgate comments that the service will enable pharmacies to continue to trade while assisting many people who rely on their local pharmacies for essential medications.

“Australia Post remains open for business during this very trying time. Our post offices are open and our posties and drivers are still out delivering each and every day,” she said.
