Continue your blood pressure medications

NPS MedicineWise has urged anyone on blood pressure medication to keep their blood pressure under control during the COVID-19 by continuing to take their blood pressure medications.

Medical Adviser at NPS MedicineWise, GP Dr Jill Thistlethwaite makes it clear that medicines that help to lower blood pressure “don’t make COVID-19 more severe”.

She adds that having uncontrolled, high blood pressure is what can “increase the risk of severe COVID-19 illness”, which is why “it is so important to continue taking your blood pressure medicines”.

“Continuing to take all of your regular medicines, as directed by your health professional, is important to keep well and stay ‘medicine-wise’ during this pandemic,” Dr Thistlethwaite says.

Being informed, understanding and following the latest advice are the best ways to protect you and your family during the COVID-19 pandemic.
