Australia’s frontline workers have been putting the health of the community first for the last couple of months now, leaving them with little time to take care of the small yet essential things, like their washing.
To say thank you to the modern-day heroes, Cold Power is setting up a free mobile washing service where essential workers can have their clothes collected, washed, dried, folded and delivered back to them, while they continue to support the community.
The service kicks off in Melbourne and Sydney from 1 June, running for two weeks for COVID-19 heroes including healthcare workers, supermarket employees and teachers.
“The pandemic has been a challenging time, working long shifts does make it difficult to manage a healthy work life balance,” says Pediatric Nurse, Christie Harrison, who has been working on the frontline throughout the COVID-19 outbreak and has felt the pressure.
“In light of COVID-19, to help stop the spread and protect our own families, we are washing our scrubs immediately after each shift. As you can imagine this has significantly increased the laundry burden for healthcare workers, my washing machine is always on.”
“Cold Power’s free laundry service is a really meaningful way to help frontliners, like myself, by giving us one less thing to think about at the end of a long shift,” says Ms Harrison.
Cold Power Assistant Brand Manager, Michelle Boye says the service was a small way Cold Power could thank these essential workers.
“While washing might be a low priority for these workers, it is still a necessary part of their lives, so we wanted to offer them assistance to take some pressure off.”
Partnering with local launderettes, two vans will service Melbourne and Sydney workplaces over two weeks, free of charge and following strict social distancing measures.
The mobile service will visit locations in Sydney’s North Shore and Inner West, and Melbourne’s Richmond and North Melbourne.
Using an online booking service, workers quickly and easily book in to have their washing taken care of.
“Cold Power has a strong Australian heritage and we are pleased to have an opportunity to do our bit to help Australia’s frontline workers during these challenging times,” says Ms Boye.
