Moderna adds momentum to vaccination rollout

Provisional approval for Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine, now the fourth vaccine to receive regulatory approval in Australia, is helping build momentum in the national immunisation effort.

Pharmacy Guild of Australia National President, Adjunct Professor Trent Twomey, says community pharmacists stand ready to further help to build momentum in the vaccination rollout.

“We welcome this action by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and look forward to Moderna approval for Australians aged 12 years and over, before it becomes available in pharmacies in about six weeks’ time,” Mr Twomey said.

“We need to have it approved for adolescents from the get-go.

“There is ample data to answer both safety and efficacy questions,” he said.

The Moderna provisional approval comes soon after Australian Government action to simplify and accelerate the rollout of Covid-19 vaccinations, with all pharmacies assessed as eligible now able to take part in the national immunisation effort.
