The Tasmanian Branch of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia has reportedly welcomed the news that approved Tasmanian authorised Pharmacist Immunisers will be able to deliver Moderna vaccines through community pharmacies to those 12-59 years old, as part of the national Covid-19 vaccination rollout.
“School holidays are approaching, so it’s an ideal time to get your family vaccinated at one of the many participating community pharmacies across the State,” says Branch President Helen O’Byrne.
“Vaccination provides the best way to protect yourself and your family from Covid-19 infection, particularly in reducing the risk of severe illness and hospitalisation.”
Tasmanian community pharmacies have already been delivering the AstraZeneca vaccine to those over 60 years old, with approximately 3500 doses delivered to date.
“We see a lot of older people in our pharmacies and always take the opportunity to help them make an informed decision about the benefits of being vaccinated,” says Ms O’Byrne.
“Once we take the time to explain and provide factual information to people to allay fears and misunderstandings, many choose to have the vaccine.”
Reportedly, the Moderna vaccine is only being made available through community pharmacies across Australia.
“Our members are preparing for a huge interest in this service, with stocks to arrive toward the middle of next week.
“We encourage eligible people to speak to their local community pharmacy now about booking in a vaccination appointment for themselves and their families,” says Ms O’Byrne.
