A special masterclass is going to be hosted by the Australasian College of Pharmacy (ACP) and Pharmeducation on Sunday 24 October in Brisbane to help pharmacists ensure they’re up to date with the contemporary best practices in managing respiratory conditions.
The face-to-face, pharmacist-only masterclass will be delivered by Advanced Practice Pharmacist, Debbie Rigby and ACP Chief Pharmacist Dr Brett MacFarlane.
ACP Chief Executive Officer, Dr Dimitri Kopanakis, says the masterclass was designed to help pharmacists integrate current evidence and guidelines for respiratory illness management with the products and advice they dispense in community settings.
“The critical role of pharmacists in managing chronic respiratory conditions has intensified during the Covid pandemic, with many patients feeling vulnerable and worrying about changes in their symptoms and access to care,” says Dr Kopanakis.
“This masterclass is a practical way the College and Pharmeducation can support those at the frontline, and we are fortunate to have experts such as Debbie Rigby and Dr Brett MacFarlane to lead it.”
As part of the masterclass, the presenters will share their knowledge of treatments for common respiratory conditions, including allergic rhinitis, asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in practical, interactive sessions.
Masterclass participants will learn how to identify sub-optimal control of chronic respiratory conditions, as well as how to show patients the correct way to use inhalers and other devices.
