Healthengine appoints new CEO

  • Dan Stinton, managing director of Guardian Australia, to join Healthengine as new Chief Executive Officer

  • Healthengine Founder Marcus Tan stepping down after nearly 15 years; will serve as interim Medical Director to support CEO transition

Healthengine, Australia’s largest consumer healthcare platform, has announced that Dan Stinton will become the company’s next chief executive officer.  Stinton will join the company in August after a five-year tenure with Guardian Australia.  He will take over from Healthengine Founder, Dr Marcus Tan, who will step down as CEO with the business on 30 June, 2023.

Stinton joins Healthengine from his role as Managing Director of Guardian Australia where he was responsible for steering the digital news organisation from a successful start-up to a major independent player in the Australian media landscape. He brings over 20 years of significant experience with SaaS, online marketplace businesses and growing consumer brands to Healthengine. Prior to his Guardian role, he was the Head of Digital at Seven West Media and Director of Corporate Development at Yahoo7. He previously co-founded and was CEO of the online marketplace eBev. He continues to support the innovation ecosystem as an investor and advisor to several tech startups.

“We are fortunate to attract someone of Dan’s calibre, experience and background. He is an inspiring leader, and his experience across both B2B and consumer brands will help drive the transformation ahead,” said Susan Forrester, chair of Healthengine Board. “We look forward to working with Dan as he leads Healthengine into its next phase of success.”

Dr Marcus Tan said, “It’s been a privilege and honour to lead the business over the years, but now is the time to bring in Dan as the new leader to guide the future of the business and our wonderful team of Healthengineers. The leadership and team are in place to fuel the vision to be the first place Australians go to navigate the complex world of healthcare and inspire the next chapter of Healthengine.”

“I’ve admired the business that Marcus and the Healthengine team have built for many years, and am honoured to lead the company in its next phase of growth,” said Dan Stinton. “I’m also excited about the opportunity to make a positive impact in healthcare, an industry that my family is deeply involved with, and look forward to working with our many and varied healthcare practice customers and health ecosystem partners to help Australians get better connected to healthcare.”

Dr Tan acquired and rebooted Healthengine in 2009 and grew the online healthcare directory to become Australia’s largest consumer healthcare platform. Dr Tan will support the CEO transition and serve as the interim Medical Director starting in August.  Healthengine Chief Financial Officer Dan Rohr will step in as interim CEO until Stinton takes the helm in August.
