Bausch + Lomb will double recycling donations

To celebrate World Sight Day, Bausch + Lomb will double all donations raised between October 11 and December 11, 2018 in the Bausch + Lomb recycling program, a national free recycling program operated in partnership with TerraCycle.

The Bausch + Lomb recycling program, launched in July 2017, allows people nationwide to collect and ship all brands of used contact lenses, blister packs and lens cases to TerraCycle free-of-charge. Once received, TerraCycle shreds, washes and melts the waste down into raw materials for producing new products, such as garden beds and park benches.

Additionally, for each kilogram of contact lens waste sent to TerraCycle, Bausch + Lomb donates $1 to the Optometry Giving Sight foundation, a global fundraising initiative that targets the prevention of blindness and vision impairment. Bausch + Lomb will match all funds raised this way between the period mentioned in support of World Sight Day.

Bausch + Lomb Brand Manager of Lens Care Maria Tran said: “We want to remind optometrists and contact lens wearers that they are making a difference by recycling contact lenses wastes and are also contributing to support a great charity – Optometry Giving Sight”.

Consumers can recycle all brands of contact lens waste by joining the Bausch + Lomb recycling program at www.terracycle.com.au/bauschrecycling. Alternatively, they can check if their local optometrist is part of the national network of public drop-off locations accepting contact lens waste on behalf of the community.

Recently, the Bausch + Lomb recycling program recycled 100,000 pieces of contact lens waste, a milestone celebrated on the program’s one-year anniversary in Australia.
