A sports dietitian in your pocket

In response to the Covid-19 pandemic early on, and the social distancing restriction that was brought into effect, came the rollout and implementation of telehealth services, along with other innovative tech-based ways that enabled health professionals to continue seeing their patients.

A health service that has made the most of innovative tech is SportsDietitian.com through the development of a new app that is designed to boost performance – like having a sports dietitian in your pocket.

SportsDietitian.com is a Queensland-based digital nutrition platform supported by Accredited Practising Dietitians.

“With the excitement of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, it is a perfect time to engage particularly young athletes in a conversation about sports nutrition.

“We can focus on fuelling our young athletes now, so they’re ready for 2032,” says Accredited Sports Dietitian and triathlete Christie Johnson of SportsDietitian.com.

“The app is like having a sports dietitian in your pocket, providing access to a range of self-guided nutrition programs, goal setting for sporting teams, recipes and food tips to support athletes at all levels, regardless of their location.”

So far, reportedly more than 90 clubs, coaches and athletes have already registered for 12 months’ free access to the SportsDietitian.com app, and over 70 athletes have signed up since launching 1 September 2021.

The app is one of 39 projects across the state to receive funding as part of the Queensland Government’s $4.1 million ActiveKIT Initiative to encourage more Queenslanders to get moving and make the active industry more resilient.

The ActiveKIT Initiative is part of the Activate! Queensland strategy, delivered in collaboration with Health and Wellbeing Queensland and the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport.

For any Queensland clubs/athletes/coaches who may come into the pharmacy inquiring about nutrition, they can sign up for the app at sportsdietitian.com/register-your-interest and receive 12 months free access any time before July 2022.
