ACP: New micro-credentials offer macro benefits

A suite of new micro-credentials customised for pharmacy professional development is now available through the Australasian College of Pharmacy (ACP RTO 88112).

The five short, targeted training programs cover key competencies identified during the College’s consultation with the industry last year.

CEO Dr Dimitri Kopanakis says the micro-credentials align with current methods, technologies, products, and performance expectations for workplace tasks in community pharmacy.

“Listening to our members and the industry, we have created a series of training options that are also building blocks for our existing nationally recognised qualifications, such as our Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management,” says Dr Kopanakis.

“Micro-credentials have become an attractive aspect of the education landscape because they offer flexible opportunities to upskill, reskill, and engage in shorter training commitments as you progress through your career.

“Leading industry representatives have designed and validated our courses, which means anyone enrolling in them can be assured of receiving training that’s relevant and practical to all pharmacy careers.

“For employers, knowing these courses have gone through rigorous benchmarking means having greater confidence in capabilities of the pharmacists they support to gain the micro-credentials, and in the new staff they recruit who have these micro-credentials,” Dr Kopanakis said.

ACP has tailored standard units of competency from the National Training Register to package pharmacy-relevant micro-credentials in:

  • Critical Thinking and Problem Solving.
  • Work Health and Safety.
  • Organisation Leadership and Management.
  • Team Performance and Development.
  • Human Resource Functions.

Self-paced and delivered online, these courses enable community pharmacy professionals to remain at the frontline of healthcare while continuing to develop crucial skills for growing a successful business.

The micro-credentials complement ACP’s extensive library of CPD resources, accredited qualifications, and short courses for pharmacists, interns, students and non-practising pharmacists.
