APC announces new Chair for Accreditation Committee

Professor Rhonda Clifford has been announced as the incoming Chair of the Australian Pharmacy Council’s (APC) Accreditation Committee.

Professor Clifford has been a member of the Accreditation Committee since 2016, and Deputy Chair since 2019.

She is currently Dean of the School of Allied Health at The University of Western Australia (UWA), and brings extensive academic leadership experience to the role.

“We are thrilled to welcome someone of such high regard and experience as Rhonda,” APC CEO, Bronwyn Clark said.

“Rhonda has been a valued member of APC for many years and is known for her calm and collaborative leadership.

“As a highly respected academic leader, she brings a wealth of perspectives from her role at UWA across allied health.

“Although Nick’s departure leaves big shoes to fill, we are confident that we are in excellent hands with Rhonda.”

Commencing the position this month (April 2025), Professor Clifford steps into the position following the conclusion of Professor Nick Shaw’s tenure.

Professor Shaw served 3 terms as Chair and has been a longstanding contributor to the APC for nearly 2 decades.

His roles included APC Board Director and Chair of the Accreditation Committee.

“Nick has been part of the APC family for nearly 20 years – both as an APC Board Director and more recently as Chair of the APC Accreditation Committee,” Ms Clark said.

“I have been so privileged to have worked under his guidance for much of this time.

“He is the consummate professional, leader and gentleman, and his legacy in advancing quality in pharmacy education will continue.

“I will miss him and wish him all the best in his impending retirement.”

The APC Accreditation Committee decides on and monitors the accreditation of pharmacy degree, intern training programs and pharmacist educations programs in Australia against our accreditation standards.

Members are appointed based on strict selection criteria and include experts from pharmacy, academia and the community.
