College stands by pharmacists needing extra training

While the announcement about the commencement of the North Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot is welcome news, as a result of this many pharmacists in North Queensland will require additional training.

Recognising that Queensland pharmacists participating in the North Queensland Pharmacy Pilot will be required to undertake 12 months of additional post-graduate training, the Australasian College of Pharmacy (the College) reminds pharmacists that it “will be by their side” throughout this process.

“As community pharmacists in North Queensland commence their journey of practising to full scope, the College will be by their side providing the additional training needed for them to offer more primary healthcare services for their patients,” College President Michelle Bou-Samra said.

“Our recent announcement of complimentary urinary tract infection training for Queensland pharmacists is a clear example of how the College develops and delivers education in response to pharmacist’s needs and industry advancement.”

The College will be working in partnership with our university partners to train community pharmacists participating in the North Queensland Pharmacy Pilot.

“In the near future, as more states and territories commence the journey to full scope of practice, the College will offer the appropriate training and education to all pharmacists across Australia, taking the profession to the next level,” Ms Bou-Samra said.
