National Pharmaceutical Services Association (NPSA) member companies have implemented emergency workaround plans to manage medicine deliveries to flood-affected metropolitan and regional parts of Victoria.
With around 400 Victorian roads closed or badly damaged by flooding, the CSO wholesalers are working around the clock to plan routes and redirect regional drivers to secure delivery where possible.
Flood waters are continuing to impact areas including Shepparton, Echuca and Kerang where the situation is being assessed hourly to gauge safe access.
While some communities are isolated and pharmacies closed, certain non-cold chain pharmacy orders are still being despatched, so a day is not lost when roads reopen.
A direct van has been able to get into Shepparton today however some pharmacies in Shepparton North & Riverside have advised that they are now unable to receive deliveries.
“At times like these, our expertise in medicines logistics is vital in finding innovative solutions to support communities in crisis,” NPSA Chair Richard Vincent said.
“Our customer service teams are in constant contact with pharmacies and emergency services, so we have the best information in order to respond quickly and safely.
“Having a dedicated medicine supply chain network means that medicines are managed directly from our distribution centres and overseen throughout the ordering and delivery process.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this latest flood emergency.”
