The Pharmacy Guild of Australia congratulates the distinguished Victorian pharmacist and Guild Life Member, Bill Scott, on being made a Member of the Order of Australia.
Bill Scott received the award for service to the pharmacy profession at the State and National level.
Bill Scott has been a significant and respected figure in the pharmacy profession and the community pharmacy industry over many years, culminating in his service as one of the panel members for the Review of Pharmacy Remuneration and Regulation.
Bill graduated with his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from Monash Pharmacy’s predecessor, the Victorian College of Pharmacy, in 1969. He is now a member of the Distinguished Alumni at Monash University.
He purchased his first community pharmacy in Melbourne in 1972, and went on to become President of the Pharmacy Guild’s Victorian Branch and Chairman of the Guild’s National Health Economics Committee.
Bill was a Non-Executive Director of Sigma for 15 years as well as Chairman of Fred IT.
The National President of the Pharmacy Guild, George Tambassis, says: “It is great to see such an outstanding community pharmacist and gentleman recognised after so many years of service to patients, to the Guild, and to the wider health system.”
Many of Bill’s friends in the pharmacy industry may not be aware that he was also a champion swimmer in his youth, winning Gold at the Australian Swimming Championships in Hobart in 1965, as part of the Victorian men’s 4×110 yards freestyle team.
