Get your crunch on this Vegetable Week

Kale your friends because Vegetable Week & The Big Vegie Crunch is back in 2021.

The free health-promotion event, operates in New South Wales primary schools, funded by NSW Health. Vegetable Week is a week-long veg-celebration from 15 to 19 March 2021.

The Big Vegie Crunch, on at 10am 18 Mach, is when tens of thousands of primary school students across NSW will join together and simultaneously munch on veg. In 2021, the team is aiming to ‘beet’ the incredible records from previous years:

  • 50,260 students crunching simultaneously in 2018.
  • 14,991 students crunching at another time of Vegetable Week in 2019.

Around 6% of Australian children eat enough vegetables and events like this can help to encourage kids to eat more vegetables.

“It is recommended that kids between the ages of 4 and 12 eat around five serves of vegies each day,” Katie Booth from Healthy Kids Association says.

“Events like this in the school setting, combined with positive peer influence and education around food, can improve awareness and help kids to try different types of veggies. We hear so many stories of parents amazed at how their children are eating more vegies, and a greater variety of vegies after their school is involved.”
