The Pharmacy Guild has congratulated healthSAVE Wilkinson’s Pharmacy on winning the 2019 Guild Award for Excellence in Community Engagement – Health Services.
In the Tasmanian coastal town of Burnie, healthSAVE Wilkinson’s Pharmacy has operated at the same site for more than 35 years. The Guild says it continues to serve the people of Burnie from 9am to 9pm, seven days a week.
The pharmacy’s three owners, Heather Wild, Diane Kerr and Jack Muir Wilson, have been involved in the business together for around five years and offer a host of services to the local community, including:
- Instore IVF dispensing and counselling (claimed to be the first service of its kind in north-west Tasmania).
- Diabetes and cardiovascular screening for local businesses and community groups.
- Home medication reviews.
- Disability carer support and education services.
- On-site health education.
“This award recognises the pharmacy’s efforts in delivering innovative healthcare solutions to the local community and we’re privileged to have them as part of our valued healthSAVE pharmacy network,” healthSAVE Head Cameron Macklin said.
“Pharmacy is having to diversify its offering to add more value for customers, and healthSAVE Wilkinson’s Pharmacy has really pioneered in this space.”
The pharmacy’s co-owner, Jack Muir Wilson, says that while it was great to receive national recognition, the motivation has always been to improve health outcomes in the local community.
“A major focus for us has been to engage and build trust with those in the community who would not traditionally come into our store to seek advice or who are not aware of the range of services we can offer,” he said.
“healthSAVE has been a fantastic partner in enabling us to strengthen our health service and retail programs while also ensuring we can remain an independent, locally owned business that is deeply embedded in the community.”
