Guild welcomes new 2020-21 NAPSA executive

Media ReleaseĀ

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia has welcomed the election of a new President and Board of the National Australian Pharmacy Studentsā€™ Association (NAPSA) for 2020-21.

National President of the Pharmacy Guild George Tambassis says the new President and Board were coming into their roles at an exciting and challenging time for the health sector generally and the pharmacy profession in particular.

ā€œCOVID-19 has changed a lot of the ways we have to work in community pharmacy today and this new generation of NAPSA executives will be charged with helping their peers in this new environment,ā€ says Mr Tambassis.

ā€œIt is always refreshing to see enthusiastic and talented pharmacy students who step up to take on these NAPSA roles because of their faith in, and commitment to, their chosen profession.ā€

Mr Tambassis congratulates Ethan Kreutzer from Monash University who has been elected President for 2020-21.

ā€œI am delighted to see my alma mater continues to produce the countryā€™s top pharmacists,ā€ says Mr Tambassis.

ā€œThe presidency of NAPSA is a great leadership role and one which is increasingly important as pharmacists strive to work to our full scope of practice,ā€ continues Mr Tambassis.

ā€œHaving strong representation at the student level is important in achieving better outcomes for the profession and for patients.

ā€œIt is also very satisfying to see the NAPSA executive being chosen from such a broad range of pharmacy schools across the country.ā€

Mr Tambassis says the Guild was a principal sponsor of NAPSA and this relationship was based on the Guildā€™s recognition of the important role NAPSA plays in the profession.

ā€œWe have enjoyed this relationship for many years and it gives us the opportunity for open and honest communication on the valued role of community pharmacists and the future of the profession.

ā€œI also want to thank the outgoing President Erin Cooper and the Board for their leadership and hard work over the past year.ā€
