Link found between krill oil and OA relief

Vitamin, supplement and skincare brand, Swisse, has found a link between krill oil and osteoarthritic relief.

Sponsored by Swisse Wellness, in collaboration with key research partner CSIRO, the 6-month study was undertaken by 235 adults aged between 40 and 65 years old diagnosed with mild-to-moderate osteoarthritis of the knee.

The study revealed that adults who took krill oil over the 6-month period saw a significant reduction in pain and an improvement in knee stiffness and physical mobility when compared to the control group.

This breakthrough result illustrates the potential benefits of krill oil and its omega-3 fatty acid as a natural alternative that may help to relieve pain and mobility issues associated with mild-to-moderate knee osteoarthritis.

The results of the study present an exciting opportunity in the krill oil space for Swisse. Swisse Wellness aims to continue collaborations with research groups like CSIRO and suppliers like Aker BioMarine for future science-led innovation.

About OA

Osteoarthritis is considered one of the most common chronic inflammatory conditions of the joints and is caused by a breakdown in cartilage which often leads to pain, swelling and limited joint mobility.

Generally, the condition deteriorates with age.

Currently, there is no cure, however, there are some short-term treatment options available, which focus on symptom and pain relief typically through the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and analgesics.
