New appointment to API Board announced

George Tambassis, former Pharmacy Guild of Australia National President, has been appointed as a non-executive director of one of Australia’s pharmaceutical distributors, API Ltd.

National President of the Guild, Trent Twomey congratulates his predecessor and says that his involvement will add great strength, experience and critical insight to the API board.

“API is one of the major players in the pharmacy sector and having George Tambassis’ expertise on hand will be a great benefit to the company and to the community pharmacies the company deals with on an everyday basis,” says Mr Twomey.

“George was National President of the Pharmacy Guild for just on seven years, during which time he led the Guild through many challenging issues, and few know the industry as well as he does.

“He signed both the Sixth and Seventh Community Pharmacy Agreements.

“With the Sixth Agreement he led the result, which saw about $18.9 billion provided in remuneration for community pharmacies, while the Seventh Agreement benefits Australians living in rural and remote areas, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

“The Agreements are fundamental to how the community pharmacy sector operates and his expertise in this area, as well as across the whole sector, will provide strong insight to API.

“George’s vast experience as a community pharmacist will also see him bring the hands-on knowledge that is so valuable to any company involved in this sector,” says Mr Twomey.
