Opella has exited Sanofi Group and is a fully standalone company under CD&R’s majority ownership, with Sanofi retaining a 48.2% stake and Bpifrance the remaining share. This transition marks a significant milestone for Opella as it evolves from a global business unit within Sanofi to an independent entity, focused on leading a self-care revolution. Opella enters its new chapter with powerful backing to support Opella’s clear mission – bringing “Health in Your Hands” by making self-care as simple as it should be.
Opella ANZ is renowned for its iconic Australian made brands Ostelin, Cenovis, and Nature’s Own. Located in the north of Brisbane, the factory site transforms active ingredients into pharmaceutical-grade vitamin and mineral supplements. The Brisbane factory produces over 2 billion vitamin tablets and soft-gel capsules per year.
Opella ANZ is also behind over-the-counter brands Telfast, Buscopan, Dulcolax, Phenergen, Mersynofen and Selsun.
With headquarters in France, Opella is committed to delivering high-quality, science-based products and solutions, and the business recognises the immense value of self-care striving to place health in the hands of more consumers worldwide, including Australia.
Opella ANZ’s General Manager Lee Coomber commented:
“It’s great to be leading the Opella ANZ team through this new chapter as a stand-alone business. I’m proud to work among such dedicated people and such a highly skilled local workforce with strong manufacturing capabilities.
“With a major factory site in Brisbane we have been manufacturing vitamins for generations. Our brands have a rich Australian history with deep roots in Brisbane’s north. Nature’s Own for example began as a humble back-garage business in the late 1960’s. Today, Nature’s Own has grown into one of Australia’s most trusted vitamin brands, alongside Cenovis with a strong 85-year Australian history, and Ostelin with 100+ years of history.
“We employ over 300 people in Australia in science, engineering, research & development, quality control, manufacturing, supply and marketing. Our local manufacturing and supply workforce in Brisbane makes up 60% of our total workforce and 53% of leadership roles are held by women.
“We recently achieved B Corp status for Opella ANZ and this is one of our crowning achievements. Our B Corp certification demonstrates our commitment to regenerative manufacturing practices and a greener future for all Australians.
“I am looking forward to embracing the future and the opportunities this new chapter will bring for Opella ANZ.
