Community pharmacies across Queensland have begun offering the fourth Covid-19 vaccine dose to Queenslanders aged 30 years and older.
This follows updated advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommending those aged between 50 and 64 to have their fourth dose, while those aged between 30 to 49 may elect to receive their fourth vaccination.
The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland Branch President, Chris Owen says there has been a strong response from Queenslanders in taking up the opportunity to receive their fourth Covid-19 vaccine dose, which is recommended three months following the first booster dose or recent Covid infection.
While vaccine stock supplies have been an issue over the past few months, Mr Owen says there is good supply stock of the vaccine and the Guild encourages anyone interested in getting their winter booster dose vaccine to visit their closest local community pharmacy.
“There have been a lot of discussions lately regarding the increase in Covid-19 cases in the community,” Mr Owen said.
“We encourage anyone eligible to ensure they are fully vaccinated to protect themselves, reduce the burden on the healthcare system and slow down the spread of Covid-19.
“The evidence is clear, the best way for us to keep ourselves protected from Covid-19 and to reduce the chances of the need for further mandates or lockdowns is by being fully vaccinated.”
