Lucinda Kenny from Capital Chemist Calwell in the ACT has been announced as the 2019 MIMS/Guild Intern of the Year. The national award supports the next generation of pharmacists and owners to build a strong foundation for their professional careers. Lucinda will receive a travel and educational scholarship to the value of $4,500 courtesy of MIMS Australia.

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland Branch, Education and Training Manager, Kathy Knack, says the award recognises dedicated and innovative intern pharmacists and thanked the top finalists and nominees.

“Congratulations Lucinda for being awarded the 2019 Intern of the Year. Your level of local community awareness and engagement was outstanding. You displayed a commitment to collaborative patient care and a strong vision for both your career goals to become a dermatology advanced practice pharmacist, and for the future of community pharmacy.”

Ms Kenny says that she is honoured to receive the award and represent many newly registered interns and the pharmacy profession at large.

“It’s humbling to be recognised in our profession during such arduous times, where pharmacists, pharmacy assistants and interns are working tirelessly during the coronavirus pandemic. Their adaptability and unfaltering contribution to sustain the health of our communities.”

“The Intern of the Year Award will support me to give back to our profession. I have a profound interest in dermatology and intend to upskill so I can provide innovative and comprehensive care within a pharmacy setting. Through Capital Chemist, I have truly learnt the meaning behind innovation and dedicated service to the community and I wish to align those values within my own pharmacy in the (hopefully near) future,” Ms Kenny says.

“My heart goes out to all the pharmacists and other health professionals in Australia working so hard on the coronavirus pandemic frontline.”

Robert Best, CEO and Executive Director of MIMS Australia and New Zealand, says that MIMS Australia are delighted to sponsor an award that showcases the innovation and excellence of pharmacy interns.

“For over 55 years, MIMS has been and continues to be, committed to supporting young healthcare professionals from all parts of the healthcare ecosystem. It is with immense pleasure that we support community and hospital pharmacies and the interns within them by providing world class medicines information at the point of care. This is even more crucial in the current pandemic to support best patient care and medication management.” “Being able to reward excellence in young people is extremely exciting for the entire team at MIMS. These interns are the future of pharmacy,” Mr Best says.

The Pharmacy Guild and MIMS are looking forward to seeing how Lucinda continues to learn and grow her pharmacy career.
