Therapeutic Guidelines has expanded its Antibiotic Guidelines following a comprehensive multidisciplinary review of more than 200 existing or new clinical topics. The scale of the update is unprecedented, covering more than 1,400 drug recommendations. New patient information, images and diagrams have been added, and aminoglycoside dosing calculators are included for the first time.
The updated Antibiotic Guidelines will be released in stages during 2025 and 2026, reflecting the size of the project. The first release covers content updates on infections commonly managed in primary care, as well as information on serious infections usually managed in hospitals, such as pneumonia and sepsis.
During this major project, over 100 Australian clinicians worked with Therapeutic Guidelines. We acknowledge and thank these contributors, many of whom are leaders in their therapeutic area, for supporting the delivery of this crucial resource.
Dr Leigh-Anne Claase, Chief Executive Officer at Therapeutic Guidelines Limited says,
“Like all of our Guidelines, the Antibiotic Guidelines are an Australian healthcare community effort. For this update, over 100 clinical experts were involved in the multidisciplinary review.”
“The Antibiotic Guidelines are an indispensable resource for Australian clinicians, supporting them to use antimicrobials appropriately. This, in turn, improves patient outcomes and reduces unnecessary antimicrobial use.”
