Third party nominations for global exchange scholarship closing 1 July

The Vice President of the World Pharmacy Council, Professor Trent Twomey reminds community pharmacy of the 2022 Australia Health Minister Young Pharmacist Global Exchange Scholarship (Scholarship) worth $50,000 available for community pharmacists within the first five years of general registration.

An initiative of the Seventh Community Pharmacy Agreement (7CPA), supported by The Australasian College of Pharmacy and the World Pharmacy Council, the Scholarship enables an early career pharmacist to work in community pharmacy in the United Kingdom (UK) for up to a year.

The Australasian College of Pharmacy President, Ms Michelle Bou-Samra, says the Scholarship will help facilitate the two-way exchange of skills and knowledge.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and the Scholarship recipient will learn at a practical level of the various tasks performed by community pharmacists in the United Kingdom working to their full scope of practice,” says Ms Bou-Samra.

“Being immersed in another country’s methods of working will help the recipient build on their technical, operational and interpersonal skills and also bring some newfound knowledge and experience back to their Australian colleagues.”

Professor Twomey says the Scholarship recipient has the opportunity to work in more than one community pharmacy in the UK, and to “learn first-hand how pharmacy services are administered in other OECD countries.”

“This will benefit Australia, the United Kingdom host country and the industry overall,” says Professor Twomey.

In addition to the $50,000 Scholarship and exchange experience, the recipient will also attend Pharmacy Connect Conference in Sydney on 1-3 September 2022, which includes: return domestic flights to Sydney; two nights’ accommodation (valued up to $1500); and one full registration, including cocktail party (valued at $870).

Third-party nominations close on 1 July and nominated early career pharmacists must respond to the nomination by 15 July to be eligible for the Scholarship.
