Chemist Warehouse on its way to ending paper receipts

Australian smart receipts fintech company Slyp, has announced a national partnership with Chemist Warehouse and the leading business bank, NAB.

The partnership will see Chemist Warehouse offer digital receipts by request for in-store purchases across all of its 460+ stores. Instead, the company will offer fully-itemised smart receipts delivered directly to the mobile devices of Chemist Warehouse customers, powered by Slyp technology.

Slyp soft launched its technology platform in December 2020 by teaming up with NAB, and has continued to grow its user base organically, with a full consumer launch including receipt notifications, export tools and further features expected in the next few months.

Chemist Warehouse prints 2.2 million paper receipts across Australia every week, a figure that will only increase as its stores, product range and customers continue to grow. The switch to smart receipts follows the recent integration of e-prescriptions within stores and is the next step in the company’s digitisation strategy.

Slyp’s momentum has been accelerated by strategic partnerships with key Australian companies including investment from all four major Australian banks.  NAB was the first to market with the technology, and is currently exclusively offering smart receipts to its customers directly in the NAB mobile app.

With further integrations currently in the works with other major and regional Australian banks, as well as Buy Now Pay Later providers, Slyp is planning to be in the hands of one in two Australians within the next 12 months, with the goal of reducing Australia’s consumption of paper receipts drastically over the coming years. This could see Slyp become the single biggest customer network in Australia.

“We’re on a mission to eradicate paper receipts from the retail sector and make sure that by this time next year – whether through their banking app, in-store or via their BNPL provider – one in two Australians have access to the smart receipt experience,” says Co-Founder and CEO of Slyp, Paul Weingarth.

“The retail sector has been calling for a smart alternative for years and the uptake we’ve seen in recent months tells us that both merchants and their customers firmly agree. For Chemist Warehouse customers, the delivery of smart receipts via SMS or through their bank app will provide an environmentally friendly, digital record of their purchase,” says Mr Weingarth.

“As Australia’s leading pharmacy retailer we strive to provide our customers with the latest in technological innovation to enhance their in-store experience and we’re proud to be setting the standard when it comes to digitisation within the industry. We’re delighted to have launched Slyp Smart Receipts to improve our environmental footprint and simplify the checkout process for both our customers and our retailers,” says Chairman and Co-Founder of Chemist Warehouse Group, Jack Gance.

“Intuitive and easily accessible, smart receipts are the next, logical step forward in the transformation of the retail experience and move towards a more sustainable in-store approach,” says Mr Gance.
