Blackmores opens distribution centre

Blackmores’ new distribution centre at Bungarribee, a suburb of Blacktown in western Sydney, was officially opened by Dr Hugh McDermott, NSW Labor MP for Prospect, who acknowledged the importance of Australian companies investing in local jobs and infrastructure.

“It’s wonderful to see a growing company like Blackmores right here in western Sydney as part of the largest manufacturing and logistics precinct in the southern hemisphere,” he said. “It’s vitally important that Australian companies can grow in our area and I look forward to seeing Blackmores continue to grow into the future.”

The opening  ceremony was attended by 120 guests, including Dr McDermott and Ed Husic, federal Labor MP for Chifley. Guests toured the facility to observe improved workflows focused on the same-day shipping of orders.

Blackmores CEO Richard Henfrey highlighted the importance of the centre in the company’s growth.

“This facility is critical to optimise our customer service proposition,” he said. “We’ve adopted higher levels of automation in our order picking and packing, and the design of workflow gives us the ability to be more agile and responsive.

“The location here at Bungarribee is important because it gives us access to the ports, the major motorways and our logistics partners. The site is a custom fit-out developed especially for our business to optimise efficiency.”

“This higher level of automation and optimised workflows has been the product of our team bringing together state-of-the-art hardware with best-in-class software, which has required the cooperation of many supply partners including the technical expertise from Oracle, MuleSoft and Schaefer.”

Blackmores says the 16,000sqm warehouse has doubled the group’s warehousing footprint and allows room for further growth. It adds that an average of 3,500 orders are shipped from the centre every week, made possible by a team of 60 employees.
