APC Colloquium 2024 – Winhangarra: Listen, Hear, Think

The Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) announces the theme of the 2024 Interprofessional (IPE) Colloquium: Winhangarra: Listen, Hear, Think

In its sixth year, the IPE Colloquium returns to discuss health profession education and its links to practice. With Interprofessional Education at its core, this event has become a unique place of interaction between academics, policy makers, researchers, health practitioners, and students across the health professions.

The 2024 program will focus on amplifying Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices to transform health profession education and practice. It will cover topics such as co-design, Indigenising curriculum, cultural safety, and how professions can work together to achieve this.

“In Wiradjuri, Winhangarra means to listen, hear and think. When we honour this, we are taking intentional steps towards personal transformation and achieving greater health outcomes for all Australians,” said APC CEO Bronwyn Clark.

“We need to prioritise listening to the advice provided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, so that decisions that affect them are led by them.

“Currently, this matter is under a national microscope, and regardless of the outcome, we will continue to engage in our work to embed cultural safety into pharmacy education. Our Colloquium theme aims to act on that commitment.

“Next May, we’ll see people come together from pharmacy and other health professions to listen, to hear and to think, towards a united goal,” said Ms Clark.

The event will boast a program of Indigenous speakers and non-Indigenous allies from across health professions to discuss their work and research in this space. The event’s full program will be announced shortly.

The IPE Colloquium seeks to highlight latest research in health profession education and contemporary practice with previous topics including creating resilience, student preparedness, virtual reality, mental health, interprofessional collaboration, and Indigenous health.

It will be held on Wednesday 22 May 2024, with a reception following the event at Emporium Hotel, South bank, Meeanjin (Brisbane).
