The Hon. Yvette D’Ath MP, Queensland’s Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, was announced on 1 March 2021, as the keynote speaker at The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland Branch’s International Women’s Day Breakfast next week.
The Women in Pharmacy Breakfast, a Covid-Safe Event, is taking place at the Sofitel Brisbane Central Ballroom at 7am on Monday, 8 March 2021.
Minister D’Ath MP joins guest speaker and pharmacist, Karen Brown, owner of TerryWhite Chemmart Samford and recipient of the 2021 Australia Day Dickson Award for Small Business Person of the Year.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, #choosetochallenge, is reflective of Minister D’Ath’s work in the Queensland community to ensure that the public health system is continuing to be strengthened, that children have access to quality education, and that local jobs are supported.
Minister D’Ath will speak to breakfast attendees about her professional journey and how she chooses to challenge. Minister D’Ath graduated from QUT with a Bachelor of Laws, attained a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from ANU and was admitted as a lawyer in 2006. She has supported the local community for many years as a long-standing member of the Queensland Labor Party.
The Pharmacy Guild of Australia’s Queensland Branch President, Professor Trent Twomey, said that breakfast attendees were excited about being able to reconnect with their industry colleagues and friends to reflect on a challenging year.
“There are many amazing women in community pharmacy and primary health care who choose to challenge the ways things are done to better support patients. The coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic saw all community pharmacists, pharmacy staff and primary healthcare workers adapting quickly to change in order to support patients in the Queensland community,” says Professor Twomey.
“I invite you, your colleagues and your friends to join us at this special event on International Women’s Day to be not only inspired by Minister D’Ath and Karen Brown but to celebrate the amazing women in community pharmacy and primary health care who choose to challenge.”
“We’ve all challenged the norm in the past year. Whether that’s stepping up every day to be on the coronavirus frontline, supporting Queensland patients, or challenging ourselves as pharmacists to work to our full scope of practice.”
“Please get in quick if you haven’t registered already. The breakfast is almost sold out,” says Professor Twomey.
Ticket bookings close on Wednesday 3 March and tickets are almost sold out. Attendees can register at: qldguild.eventsair.com/iwdb2021/registration for $50pp, or secure a table of eight for $45pp ($360).
The breakfast will be run as a Covid-Safe Event under the guidelines of the Queensland Government’s Covid-Safe Event Checklist.
