Riding for dementia awareness

The Bondi2Berry charity rides rolls out from Bondi Beach on 5 December 2020 and will see 100 cyclists tackle the 155km journey to Berry, NSW all in the name of dementia.

Since its inception in 2016, Bondi2Berry has raised more than $500,000 for Dementia Australia, with the money raised going towards supporting people impacted by the condition and vital research into a cure.

As what has happened with most other events this year, the Bondi2Berry charity ride had to be postponed earlier this year, due to Covid-19, so riders, including Tom Chard, now eager to get back on the bike.

Mr Chard will join the ride in support of his mum, Liz who lives with dementia.

“I’m participating in Bondi2Berry as I have in previous years, to ride for my mum,” explains Mr Chard.

“My mum, Liz, was diagnosed with younger onset Alzheimer’s disease a few years ago, so this is my way to show my support to her and raise some much-needed money and awareness for dementia.”

With the upheaval that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused this year, Dementia CEO, Maree McCabe is grateful for everyone involved with Bondi2Berry and for their incredible efforts in planning this event and ensuring the safety of all participants.

“We are so grateful to their commitment to improve the lives of the 459,000 Australians living with dementia.

“On behalf of Dementia Australia, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all involved,” she says.
