Screening boost for sleep, heart referrals

Reports reveal early in-store screening services for sleep and heart health conditions play a key role in high-risk patient medical referrals.

The Australian Pharmacy Sleep Services conducted a study with Amcal and Guardian pharmacies, looking at sleep conditions, with results indicating 30 per cent of participants have severe obstructive sleep apnoea.

Additionally, findings from the 2019 Amcal and Guardian heart health screening campaign demonstrate that one in five participants have gone on to address health concerns with their GP.

“Awareness and the early identification of these health conditions is critical for patient health… and the important role pharmacists play,” Sigma Healthcare General Manager Retail Brian Tomlin said.

He adds that the Amcal/Guardian network is embracing the Doctors on Demand telehealth service, which links patients with an Australian registered GP.
