TWC on to track vaccinate 500,000 Aussies

TerryWhite Chemmart has increased its flu stock capacity to help more Australians get vaccinated against influenza.

As lockdown restrictions gradually ease and Australians slowly adjust to life beyond the confines of their homes, the rate of influenza infection might also increase.

A rush on flu vaccinations early in the season saw many pharmacies, including TerryWhite Chemmart, stripped of stock earlier than anticipated.

According to TerryWhite Chemmart CEO Duncan Phillips, this situation has fortunately changed for TerryWhite Chemmart pharmacies.

“Our pharmacists vaccinated more Australians in the first four weeks of launch in early March than in the 2019 season and now that we have a new supply of stock, we are on track to vaccinate more Australians this year than the last two seasons combined,” says Mr Phillips.

“It was pleasing to see the significant increase of people being vaccinated early in the season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, but with the unprecedented demand early in the season, some people may have found it difficult to secure a vaccination,” adds Mr Phillips.

“I can assure Australians now that across our pharmacies we have plenty of available stock and it’s never too late to get a flu vaccination.”

TerryWhite Chemmart Pharmacist Matt Boulter, who himself has already personally delivered more than 1,500 vaccinations at his Marion Road Compounding Pharmacy in South Australia this year, stressed the importance of getting a flu vaccination.

“While the flu vaccination won’t protect you against COVID-19, it is the best way to reduce your risk of influenza which kills hundreds of people in Australia each year and leads to thousands more hospitalisations.

“The 2020 influenza vaccine covers the four most recent strains of influenza and will help protect you for approximately three to four months.

“We have seen influenza seasons of previous years extending beyond winter, so getting a flu vaccination will help protect you for the remainder of the 2020 flu season,” says Mr Boulter.
