TerryWhite Chemmart (TWC) is getting members ready to vaccinate the public against Covid-19 by hosting virtual and face-to-face events in the lead to the national vaccine rollout.
In just over a week, TWC will be hosting more than 500 pharmacists across its network for a virtual vaccination event as well as holding face-to-face training events in March and April.
In addition to providing critical updates on the Covid-19 vaccine rollout, the virtual vaccination event will cover training and support for:
- Addressing ‘vaccine hesitancy’.
- Cell-based influenza vaccinations (Flucelvax).
- Vial-based vaccine administration.
- Being “Always On” with pertussis vaccinations.
- Critical vaccination workflow.
“At its peak in 2020, we were administering over 80,000 flu vaccinations per week, so over 11,000 flu vaccinations per day.
“With COVAX, we are preparing to be able to exceed 15,000 per day,” TWC CEO Duncan Phillips commented.
This week, the group was providing support to its network for the Covid-19 vaccination with the Government’s EOI form recently released and has already started work on an educational campaign to help address ‘vaccine hesitancy’ as part of the rollout.
The training and customer communication planning has been underway for some time says TWC Chief Pharmacist Brenton Hart, confident that pharmacy was always going to play a significant role in the Covid-19 vaccine program.
“We have worked for many years to gain a leadership position in vaccinations. Our extensive preparation for the 2021 flu season, including comprehensive training and engagement will prove extremely valuable in preparing the network for COVAX,” says Mr Hart.
“The recent government announcement is testament to every community pharmacist immuniser for all their hard work and professionalism over many years.
“This will be an immense challenge, but I know community pharmacists will step up and deliver for their local communities.”
